Study: Fukushima killed at least 14,000 people in the US, mostly babies, in weeks following disaster – Project Nsearch

NaturalNews For the very first time, a scientific study published in a peer-reviewed journal has come up with a solid estimate of the total number of US deaths caused by the Fukushima nuclear disaster in the weeks following it. Epidemiologist Joseph Mangano, MPH, MBA, and his colleagues say that, based on compiled data, at least 14,000 people in the US were killed during the 14 weeks following the Fukushima catastrophe — and the majority of these deaths were in children under age one.Published in the International Journal of Health Services, Manganos study looked at both infant and adult death rates during the time when Fukushima occurred, as well as in previous months and years. During the 14 weeks prior to Fukushima, for instance, infant deaths had been declining by 8.37 percent, while in the weeks following the disaster they increased by 1.8 percent. Among adults, a 4.46 percent death rate was observed in the weeks after Fukushima, compared to 2.34 percent, which is about half that rate, a year prior.

BBC News – Yorkshire flash floods: Clear-up operation under way

A clear-up operation is under way in parts of Yorkshire after torrential rain caused flash flooding.

North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire were badly affected on Wednesday, with some homes and businesses being evacuated.

Humberside Fire Service received 135 calls in three hours as heavy rain fell on Goole and the aftermath left the town college closed.

In Dunnington, near York, trees came down in high winds and hailstones damaged the Britain in Bloom entry.

In the port of Goole the clear up has started and an investigation has begun into why street drains filled and left standing water.

Signs of 2012?: Freak weather! Russia hit by first-ever city tornado

Dramatic footage has emerged of a freak twister that ripped through the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk last night.

It left one person dead, nearly 30 injured, tore off roofs from nearly a hundred houses and damaged 150 cars. Authorities in the far eastern city, which has a population of around 200,000, have declared a state of emergency as a result.

Tornadoes are extremely rare in Russia, and local meteorologists say it is the first tornado ever to hit a Russian city, according to weather records.

On Sunday, July 31, local farmers met to discuss options on this eroding section of levee in the Grand Pass bottoms. Late Sunday and Monday, they put approximately 160 blocks of concrete in the hole and report it is holding well for now.

Even as the Army Corps of Engineers announced it will start gradually dropping record flows from Gavins Point Dam this week, area farmers and landowners are still fighting against the swollen Missouri River.

At a private levee in the Grand Pass bottoms, a section of constant swirling river heading towards the bank began eroding a large section in the levee last week. Within just a few days, it became a large hole.

“There are sometimes at night when you come down here it sounds like an ocean,” said one of the many farmers inspecting the problem on Sunday, July 31. The hole is located in front of farmland commonly referred to as White’s Island.
